Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
As per the description, either you could have sustained soft tissue injury or a fracture. Bones in the hand (metacarpals & phalanges) are fragile in nature and tend to get fractured even with minor injuries.

If you are able to move all the fingers normally, If there is no visible deformity or any abnormal mobility in the involved fingers, then a major fracture can be ruled out.

You need to have xrays to diagnose a fracture.

Initial management is as follows -
* rest to the local part
* elevation of the hand with active finger movements to resolve edema
* ice compressions
* analgesic and antiinflammatory medicines
* elastic compression bandage over the wrist

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
