Treated For Sepsis. Started Sweating And Have Low Fever At Night. Any Advice?
My daughter was in hospital for 7 days for sepsis due to unknown causes. After having monocef injection and mikacin injection, she was discharged with no fever, but after her fever subsided she is continuously having low body temp (95 to 96 deg f) while sleeping and sweating profusely from the head, forehead only at night. Her blood and urine culture reports showed no growth after 48 hours. We are very worried and and kindly advise the reasons for her sweating ang low temp at night. When awake she is having body temp betweeen 97.6 to 98.8 def f
Hi thanks for your question.
Low temperature and sweating could occur in early part of sepsis or when sepsis is very advanced .
This is because advanced sepsis cause decrease in blood pressure which causes sweating and low body temperature.
In case your daughter this could be due to incompletely treated infection.
Your daughter may need antibiotic for few more days.
Kindly re consult your physician .
Hope this answers your question.
thank you.it may be due to incompletely treated or persistent infection.it is not obvious from your history of the source of infection.there may be associated hematological malignancy like lymphoma or acute leukemia which causes profuse sweating during night.as a result temperature decreases.bone marrow exam. is an essential inv. for your daughter.so you may consult with a hematologist.
