Treated Polymyalgia With Prednisone But Again Reappearing. How To Recover Completely?

I was diagnosed with polymyalgia several years ago and was treated with prednisone at that time. This past few weeks I AM AGIN FEELING THQT THIS MAY HAVE RETURNED ALTHO NOT AS SEVERE AS THE FIRST BOUT I had a few years back. I AM STILL TAKING 5 MG OF PREDNISONE SO I am wondering if this is reducing the pain level. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS HOW TiRED I feel. Last night I slept for 10.5 hours and I could now go to sleep again. What do you suggest?

Hi. Welcome to HCM forum. Polymyalgia rheumatica means 'pain in many muscles'. It is a condition that causes inflammation of the joints and tissues around the joints. Exact cause of polymyalgia rheumatica is not known. Genetics and/or environmental factors, such as an infection, may play roles in causing this type of arthritis. The good news is that the symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica usually improve with treatment. In fact, most people find their symptoms improve dramatically within a few days of starting treatment. It usually takes two to three years for polymyalgia rheumatica to settle completely. Most people will need to continue treatment during this time to keep the symptoms under control, but remember it may relapse after sometime. Treatment involves steroids which u r taking now (prednisone). Slowly your doctor will reduce the dose of prednisone to the lowest possible amount that keeps u symptom free. Your tiredness will come down just wait for sometime and follow your doctors advice. Regards
