Tumor, MRI Showed Closeness To Gland. Could It Affect The Facial Nerve?
My daughter is seeing a specialist in reference to a tumor , the size of a quarter, that an MRI showed is against the Parotid Gland Her doctor said it could be serious because of the closeness to the gland. When we see the specialist what questions are important that we make sure we ask because we have heard that it could affect the facial nerve? Thank you
Hi, Thank you for posting your query. Most tumors in parotid gland are benign in nature and can be completely cured with surgery. It is important to confirm the nature of tumor, whether it is benign or malignant (cancer). This may require FNAC or biopsy of the tumor. You can discuss the risks involved in the surgery, especially the risk of damage to the facial nerve. I hope it helps.
