Twisted Knee, Swelling, Cannot Move Much. What Can Help?

Hi I twisted my knee skiing just over 3 weeks ago. My right knee rolled outwards when I was on my back and I felt pain on the inside of my knee. My knee swelled up and I have had several traumas since when moving my leg whilst walking, changing sitting position and in bed asleep. I can t flex my knee and neither can I straighten it properly. I also have cramp like feelings in my calf which is further limiting my movement. I would be grateful for any advice. Bill

Twisting injuries followed by swelling in the knee can be due to damage to any of the multiple structures inside the knee. It can be the ligaments, meniscus, cartilage or bone.

Ligament injuries give a feeling of instability on walking with pain. Meniscus injuries can cause locking, difficulty in fully straightening and pain.

You require to see an orthopaedic doctor who will examine you and may ask for x rays and scans; and plan an appropriate treatment for you.

You can contact me in case you require further assistance.

Bye
