Type 2 Diabetic, Tooth Extraction Needed. Should Antibiotics Be Taken Before Or After Extraction?

My husband is diabetic, type I I and he needs a tooth pulled on May 29. I was just wondering if he needs antibiotics before or after having the tooth pulled as his dentist didn't say one way or the other? My husband is stubborn and says if the dentist didn't say anything, then he doesn't need anything. I just want to put my mind to rest. Thank you. my email is YYYY@YYYY

Hello,
Thanks for using health care magic for posting your query.
There are two requirements for antibiotics. First requirement is at the site of tooth extraction and other requirement is to prevent the infection on the heart when tooth is extracted so that bacteria entering into the blood stream do not infect the heart.
In your husbands case who is diabetes 2, he will require antibiotics both before and after the extraction.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
