Type2 Diabetic, Unable To Control. Addicted To Nicorette Gum. Bad For Type 2 Diabetes?
I am a type 2 diabetic and can't seem to get it under control....now my DR. wants to put me on Victoza, which hasn't been approved by the US for only about a year and 1/2...I'm a bit leery about taking it. I also think I am addicted to the Nicorette gum, as I have been using it for over 3 years. Should I try and get off the gum? Is that bad for my Type 2 diabetes?
Hello, Inj.VICTOZA was approved by US FDA on 25th jan.2010 and if you have concerns regarding its use,you should talk to your doctor about it.There is definitely some concern regarding this injection as it has been reported to cause thyroid carcinoma in mice but it has not been reported in humans. VICTOZA might have been prescribed because your diabetes must not be getting controlled with oral anti diabetic drugs. You may discuss with your doctor regarding the use of long acting insulin LANTUS instead of inj.VICTOZA. NICORETTE GUMS are sugar free as it has only artificial sweeteners. Each piece of NICORETTE gum has less than 3 calories and 1 gm of carbohydrate in it.It should not be bad for your diabetes. Thanks
