Ultrasound During Pregnancy Showed Low Lying Placenta. Have Loose Stools, Stomach Cramps. Need For Concern?

Hello there,
I am 19-20weeks along now with my third child and had an u/s yesterday which they said I had a low lying placenta but didn't say much else other than everything else looks.good. However after camping the long weekend I have been having loose stool that comes on quickly (for bout 2days but not excessively during the day only bout 2-4times.day) has mild stomach cramp with it. Should I be taking any precautions or be concerned at all? My other pregnancy's I never had this. Thanks.

Hello there.

Your ultrasound report has nothing to do with your stomach cramps.

90% of the low lying placenta become upper segment and normal position by 8th month. The only precaution for now can be avoid heavy work, intercourse, vaginal examination. Consult your doctor immediately in case you have vaginal bleeding.

The loose stools with cramps you have may be due to gastroenteritis. You can take a course of antibiotics if it persists.

take care
