Hi, Welcome to HCM. Its not uncommon to have a severe pain from a tooth with carious cavity, especially when the cavity reaches the 'pulp' inside the tooth. The pulp is broadly composed of nerve and blood vessels in a soft tissue matrix and it got infected when the bacteria or bacterial toxin reaches it from a carious cavity, which your doctor probably described as a 'nerve damage'. The pain from the infected tissue may spread to the local area, as it happened to you. I do not know the overall condition of your tooth, but generally this kind of complications can be treated by Root Canal Treatment of the offending tooth. But for the present relief you can start an antibiotic like Amoxicillin 500 mg + Potassium Clavulanate 125 mg every 8 hourly for 5 days. Lot of such combinations available in the market. A safe analgesic like Paracetamol 1gm can be taken to relieve pain as and when you feel pain but not more than 4 tabs a day. These will relieve your present complication, mostly within three days. Visit your dentist as soon as possible.

Hi Thanks for asking. Problems with the tooth can present with generalised pain and inflammation in the upper cervical area with fever and associated symptoms. Actually it is a source of infection which when get infected leads to systemic symptoms. Please consult your dentist as soon as possible. Thanks.
