Unable To Move Wrist, Swollen Fingers Due To Injury, Slanted Wrist. Report Shows Distal Radius Fracture With Collapse Wrist. Help
Hello Sir,
My mother got injured and her right hand wrist fractured. Report shows as Distal Radius fracture with collapse right wrist. External fixator application +K wire right wrist was done on June 23. The K wire was removed on September 02. She is unable to move her wrist and the fingers are swollen. Her wrist is still slant and that's worrying. She is currently doing exercise. Please advise.
A certain amount of stiffness in the injured joint is inevitable after any form external fixation done across the fractured joint. Swelling is also a common finding which usually results due to immobilization and venous stasis.
Malunion (wrist joint not being in correct position) is an established complication of a distal radial fracture especially in elderly people. One has to accept this fact.
Regular physiotherapy is the only hope for obtaining a functional range of motion in your mother's wrist joint.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
