Undergone Surgery For Perforated Colon. Having Lower Abdominal Pains, Red Blood In Bag. Possible Reason?

My husband had surgery for a perforated colon due to diverticulitis in August. He has a temporary colostomy . We last saw our surgeon on December 12th all good. For the past few days he has had some pain low in belly and today there was red blood in bag. I called surgeon but he has not called back. Is this anything to worry about?

Hi,
Red colored discharge from the colostomy bag needs to be investigated. You can contact your surgeon so that he/she can search for sites of active bleeding if any.
