Urge To Constantly Clear Throat, Redness, Throat Filled With Veins. Causes For Symptoms?

I have had the urge to clear my throat for several years. I can say about more than 4 years i have felt this. I am a smoker and have been one for several years too but I can think back of a time, before I started smoking , where I would constantly clear my throat. It doesn t hurt, only feels sore sometimes but mostly it s annoying. I can still eat and drink anything normally. My throat also looks red and veiny right now, this happens every so often too. What could it be?

Hello, Welcome. The frequent urge to clear one s throat which we call the hawking sensation can be due to numerous causes commonest of which is a sinusitis. It can also be due to a dry mucosa (smoking induced, allergy). Rarely, it can be habitual creating a false feeling that something has stagnated in the throat necessitating a clearing action. So, see your ENT physician who can help you out in assessing the cause. All you might need are x rays of the sinuses, a thorough ENT examination and if necessary a diagnostic nasal endoscopy. So put an end to this problem which has been disturbing you for long.Thank you .Take care!

welcome to hcm
these symptoms are not uncommon in chronic smokers. it is due to the hyperreactivity of the bronchial glands and their secretions to the contents of the cigarettes.
Kindly requesting hereby to cut down your fags gradually and thus get relieved of your annoying symptoms for a long duration.
