Urine And Discharge Smell Bad After Having Sex. Is It UTI Or Something Else?

Hi. So a few days ago I started having sex with my new boyfriend. At first I was in a lot of pain. I knew my vagina was swollen so I didn't really get too concerned but yesterday I started getting weird symptoms. When I pee, I feel fine until the very end i start getting painful discomfort in my clitoris. My pee and discharge also smell really bad and I have never experienced it before. At first I thought I had a UTI but my friend said it wasn't the same symptoms. What is going on with me???

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

I understand you are concerned, but keeping in mind that your friend is not a medical professional, and based on your symptoms, a UTI cannot be ruled out as yet. As this is a condition more easy to diagnose than sexually transmitted diseases, which will have to be considered if a UTI is ruled out, let us first look into ruling out/diagnosing a UTI.

For this, you will have to get your urine examined, and if it does return a positive result, depending on the result, your doctor will advise a course of antibiotics, pain management medication (if pain is present) and a urine alkalizer. You will have to consume plenty of water and abstain from sexual intercourse at least 7 days from the last day of your treatment regimen.

If your urine report returns normal and a UTI is ruled out, then based on the type of discharge and a physical examination conducted by your doctor, you will have to be screened for sexually transmitted infections; and treated accordingly.

Either way, it is imperative that you abstain from sexual contact. Also, shedding some light on a few facts here, is that your symptoms started after sexual contact with your new boyfriend. If you have a simple UTI, this cannot be blamed on your new sexual partner, but if it a sexually transmitted infection, then this is purely from contact with your new sexual partner, and I would advise you to request him to seek treatment as well, or completely abstain from any form of sexual contact with him.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
