Used Marijuana Post Surgery. Tingly Sensation. Information?

Is it possible for your body after a trauma (like surgery) to remember that pain and try to fix it. My friend had his gallbladder removed and it was very painful before surgery because of obvious reasons and prior because of the cutting into body. While in recovery marijuana was used and he said he felt a tingly sensation that felt good in the area that was in pain. So now that he is 'healed' there has been marijuana use a couple times. That same feeling is felt where the gallbladder pain had been (upper abdominal into that back). He joked that it is kind of like a phantom limb type experience. My other friend said her boyfriend sometimes feels a tingly sensation where he had surgery on hernias. Though it is not confirmed if that feeling is with marijuana use. Anyways, I find it really interesting. Can you give any information for why this happens?

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. I feel like you are having the tingly sensation due to a neuropathic condition. I believe there are reports of this happening after a traumatic injury and sometimes surgery if a major nerve has been cut or you were not psychologically prepared for the surgery. It is interesting that you used marijuana post surgery, and wonder what it did for the pain. I also think it was not the best idea as there are many medications available for neuropathic pain and you need to be consulting a doctor for the same. I hope this helps.

Take care and have a lovely day!
