Vaginal Bleeding. Pap Test Done, Ruled Out Cancer. On Birth Control. Any Treatment?

I have been bleeding vaginally for almost 3 months now. I have gone to the doctor and I have had pap test done and they have ruled out cancer, It will not stop what is going on. The doctor has me taking birth control pills it which make it light but I still bleed even to stand up. What is going on? I am 48 years old and sick of using pads daily

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
The possible causes for your bleeding are :
- Hormonal imbalance in perimenopausal age group.
-Structural causes like fibroids, endometrial polyps etc.
- Rare possibility endometrial malignancy etc.
So, as your bleeding is not getting controlled with contraceptive pills, consult your gynecologist again.
And with her advice go for D&C.
This will help to decrease bleeding by scrapping out the bleeding endometrial lining and also the tissue can be sent for histopathological pathological examination.
So this will help both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
After that better to go for progesterone pills instead of combined pills with your doctor's advice.
Possibly this can help in controlling your bleeding.
Take care.
