Waking Up With Astronomically High Pulse During Sleep. Heart Patient, High BP. Opinion?

I am a heart patient with AF. I was on Metoprolol and diltiazem. Now on Tikosyn and blood pressure medicine. Every time I go to sleep I wake up with an astronomically high pulse, as high as 140. I can hear it pounding in my ears. It calms.down after I get up but who knows how long it was doing that in my sleep. My doctors seem okay with this. I wanted a second opinion.

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
After going through your available details, you are having AF( Atrial Fibrillation) I presume you were not controlled on Metoprolol and Diltiazem.

This drug Tikosyn (Dofetilide) is used under supervision of Cardiologist and good drug to control rate and even chemically convert to sinus rhythm.

This can potentially cause ECG changes which needs to be monitored like QT prolongation.
You can certainly seek second opinion and if required EPS ( Electrophysiological study).

Your cardiologist can monitor it with Holter monitor or through Telemetry.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
Good Luck.

Cardiologist Dr. Sukhvinder Singh's  Response
Dear Sir
Thanks for writing to us.
When we suddenly wake up from sleep (especially deep sleep) our heart beat and blood pressure increases. This is a normal response of body. It settles down after sometime. If you have any symptoms related to this or If your BP is persistently high, you should consult your physician.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder
