The discharge is most commonly a symptom of infection of the vagina,cervix,upper reproductive tract,and hormone deficiency. If it is a vaginitis(vagina infection),you could have other symptoms like itching,irritation,odour,pain during urination and also during sexual intercourse. Lower abdominal pain in addition to the discharge is also suggestive of a pelvic inflammatory disease(chronic upper reproductive tract infection), or a cystitis(urinary bladder infection). In your case,since you are having difficulties in conceiving(after having unprotected sexual intercourse for at least a year?),it is probably a pelvic inflammatory disease.You will have to do a pelvic ultrasound to help confirm this diagnosis.
