Weight Loss After Having Had Hernia Repaired, Mesh Tangled With Intestines. Will It Take Long To Heal?
I had a hernia repaired 10 weeks ago for the second time. Had the first one 6years ago. In the past year have been working out lots and have lost 60 pds. The Dr said with the weight loss and exercise the mesh started turning up and got tangled in my intestines. My question is it seems to be taking a long time to heal. Have been trying to get back to my exercise routine mainly Zumba but am having a lot of pain so I have stopped again. Should it take longer than 10 weeks to heal? Still feel swollen also,
Hi, By ten weeks after your recent operation, you should be able to undertake strenuous physical exercise. Also, it would be unusual for there to be a problem with the original mesh after 6 years. I wonder whether there is another cause for your pain. I suggest you see your doctor for further investigation as there are a number of causes for pain in the groin area associated with a swollen feeling. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
