Hi, My father is diagnosed with hernia and got operated in 2013. He has again developed hernia now. He also has other complaints like severe constipation, abdominal pain, vomiting. He has been advised to take digestal and duphalac by the surgeon for 15 days. He has been advised to get TSH and CEA tests done before re-examining him after 15 days. Would like to know why are these tests advised? Isnt CEA test done for diagnosing colon cancer?
Hello dear I understand your concern Your symptoms could be due to the hernia. Some time in the hernia bowel get obstructed and produce sever abdominal pain, constipation and vomiting. Chest Xary and USG will help to rule out the any complication of hernia. Sever constipation also associated with lower thyroid activity so it can be rule out by TSH test. CEA has diagnostic significance in colon, pancreatic cancer and medullary carcinoma of thyroid. You can ask your doctor for CEA test for more clarification. Hope this may help you
