Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Information letter from insurance company suggested I could benefit from an ARB. Due to a previous heart condition I am already taking and ACE-Inhigitor and beta-blocker which they also suggested. Of course they also said to consult w/ my dr. Question: What is an ARB?
Angiotensin is a hormone that is put out by the kidney that causes blood vessels to spasm. It raises blood pressure and is fairly toxic. ACE inhibitors prevent it from being made and blockers block the effect of the angiotensin that still manages to get made in the presence of ACE inhibitors.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Matt Wachsman
