What Are Chances Of Brain Damage After A Heart Attack?
my friend just had a heart attack and I was told his heart had stopped for seven minutes before paramedics arrived and that he "died" three times on the way to the hospital. He's on a ventilator now and in an induced coma. What are the chances of brain damage after the heart stopping for seven minutes? I'm down on my luck; poor health and no money. Is there anyone who can simply answer this question out of the sheer goodness of their heart and/or a commitment to help out of responsibility to their fellow human beings as physicians? Or, is it, tragically, all about the money?

Hello, Your question is a very diffocult one, and no one really can answer that with 100 % surety. Having said that the amount of damage that can happen in to the brain depends directly upon the time his heart was not beating. The chances that he will recover completely are rather less. However there must be some signs of brain activity that he is being kept on ventilatory support. And the real amount of permanent damage to his brain, if any, will only be appreciable after he is taken off the ventilator.
