What Are Chances Of Survival With Only 16-18% Kidney Functioning?
My Father is an 80 year old who has 0nly 16-18% kidney function at present. He has to have echo & vein tests& results in 6 weeks. He has very high blood pressure & controls with tablets by checking bld pressure constantly. His urine flow is still good, not too much swelling of legs...he has gout though. What are his chances when he goes onto dialysis. Life span of 80
In general dialysis is suggested when Renal function decreased to less than 5% and with associated symptoms like vomiting decreased appetite breathlessness etc. My guess with his present renal function he can live without need of dialysis for at least 2 years provided he don't take painkillers, control of blood pressure etc. Once he needs dialysis present average lifespan on dialysis at the age of 80 is sadly 1.5 years. That time you need to think about emotional economic and social factors. All the best. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
