What Are Rare Epithelial Cells?

HI I just went to get a vaginal exam. I was told I had PID. My results read : rare epithelial cells and numerous gram positive bacilli . Negitive for chlamydia. Im scared because I know bacilli is bacteria but im not shore what the rare epithelial is . Can u help me?

Thanks for posting your query to HCM .

Epithelial cell is normal cells covering the surface of body . It's present over the skin and internal organs which it lines like food pipe ( esophagus ) stomach , Intestine , kidneys , ureter , urinary bladder , vagina .

These epithelial cells are shed by the body everyday and hence they appear on the sample given or taken for test and so is your case .

So no not to worry about Epithelial cells .
