Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had an ankle sock brace placed on my right foot two days ago. My podiatrist said the swelling of my right ankle area was due to walking in slip-on sandals (no back of the foot or sling straps) the last 4 weeks on uneven terrain. I am to wear the brace all day except at night when I sleep. Sometime yesterday, I bumped my leg and did not think much of it until today when I noticed a terrible bruise on my right calf (sp) with a small hard knot underneath! Is this normal? Is it due to the brace being tight and constricting the blood in the right leg? What shall I do? Thanks- Teresa
What I feel by the history is the swelling of the ankle is due to using of the too tight ankle brace.
Ankle braces are designed to stabilize the ankle joint so soft tissue and bones stay stabilize and avoid injury.
The bruise and knot are not due to ankle sock. But the swelling of the ankle is definitely due to the tight sock.
Also, I would like to ask you what is your age? why the ankle sock was applied? did you have any ankle sprain?
Now first thing is if your ankle has no pain then try not to use the ankle sock brace. Also, use hot water fermentation for feet so the vascular supply improves and the swelling comes down by putting it on the pillow.
Kindly do some ankle rehabilitation exercise under a guided Physical therapist. This should help you to a greater extent for more stability and power in the feet.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
