Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had radiation therapy for non-Hodgkin s lymphoma in the inguinal area three years ago. Two neurologists think that pain in the area is caused by nerve damage from radiation. Two oncologists think it unlikely as there is no damage to the skin. All four are highly regarded physicians. Can there be damage to internal organs and/or nerves without damage to the skin? How do I resolve this conflict?
Hi, dear I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Side effects of radiation is mostly local. Skin damage, blistering, fatigue, development of second cancer are general side effects. Local side effects are mainly due to local injuries.
Nerve damage without skin damage is very uncommon. Your pain may be due to some other cause. It is not due to nerve damage as a result of radiotherapy.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
