I have a retracted ear drum on the right side. I have held my nose and blew to try helping it go back to its original spot. It worked after two days of this manevuar however within two weeks I was in the same situation. What is my next step in treatment?

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding retracted ear drum.

First of all I would like to tell you that basic pathophysiology for retraction of ear drum. This clinical condition arises whenever there is dysfunction of eustachian tube (tubular connection between middle ear and throat) as tubal obstruction. This obstructed tube will give rise to negative pressure in middle ear which results in retraction of ear drum.

To treat this you should do-

1- Steam inhalation.

2- Anti inflammatory .

3- Decongestant.

4- If these above are not effective than insertion of grommet or tube in ear drum.

I think above answers your query.

Regards.
