What Are The Chances Of Catching An Infection After Touching Some Blood Stains?
While I was at work today I touched some blood that I didn t know was there after I realized I touched something wet I rubbed my fingers together only to look at my hand and see blood on my fingers. I didn t have an open cut on the hand that touched the blood but I have a scratch on my other hand. I washed the hand first and then washed my hands together. Am I at risk of catching anything? And after washing my hands do I still have to worry about further germs still being on my hand?
It is very dangerous to touch or get exposed to blood and body secretions. Please take care of this and observe universal precautions in future.
An infection can not pass through and intact skin. As you had no cuts on that hand, so there are no chances of you getting the infection. Cuts on the other hand does not mean anything. The best we can do during such accidental exposures is to wash our hands well with soap and water which you did.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
