Hi,
Although
Diane 35 is an effective birth control pill due to the anti-androgenic effect of
cyproterone acetate &
estrogen ethinyl estradiol. However, it has never been approved to be used for this purpose. It is generally prescribed for its anti- androgenic property on skin disorders like hirsuitism or acne etc. Here, generally 3-4 cycles are used & the medicine is stopped, once the skin condition improves.
It is generally not advised for routine use as an oral
contraceptive, as supposedly more safe drugs are used for this purpose. Venous thrombo-embolic side effect is present with all oral contraceptive, but it seems worst with use of Diane 35. Though some studies, do not see an increased risk of thrombo-
embolism with this drug as compared with other oral contraceptives, still it is always better, not to use this drug for this purpose, till the controversy is resolved.
Its efficacy in preventing the
pregnancy is same, as with other oral contraceptives which is in order of 99.7% or so. Its use is completely effective, even if the sex is done during pill free interval, provided the course is being taken strictly as advised.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
