What Are The Chances Of Rabies Transmission Form An Infected Person?
One of my relative died of Rabies on Nov-12-2011.Six months before she got a dog bite from a stray dog . She got vaccinated but had only 2 doses. She showed the symptoms of rabies last week and died within 4 days from the initial symptom. My concern is that she has handled our infant child(5 moths old boy) 20 days before her initial symptom and a couple of times earlier, after the dog bite. I'm scared about my baby's health now. Should i get him vaccinated with ARV?
Hello dear, welcome to HealthcareMagic forum. Human to human transmission is extremely rare.Even then,it will not result from manual contact. It will need introduction of patients saliva to a wound or mucosa. And it is already around 3 years past(the usual incubation period is 1-2 months.ARV is indicated in category 3 bites only(deep wound or mucosal exposure).Otherwise,we advice IDRV.
In my opinion, you need not worry, and need not be vaccinated unless he is at risk of animal bites. Hope this answer will be useful.Thank you.
