my daughter suffered from idiopathic generalised epilepsy a year ago and has since been on oxetol 300 mg tabs twice daily basis without any further episode. how long will she have to continue the medication in general and what are the chances of reoccurence. ashok mishra
Anti-epileptics could be a lifelong treatment at times. However when the patient is seizure free for at least 2 years than it can be attempted to stop the drug. That is never done abruptly, dose is lowered gradually over several months. There is a chance that seizures may return, you can't know for sure. An EEG before attempting the interruption would help to make a prediction, if no epileptiform changes then her chances are better, but still it's no guarantee.
