I just want to ask if my case is serious. I had my 2d echo test and the result was positive to mitral valve prolapse. I had a history of sore throat infection that keeps on coming back. My doctor said that maybe i had this already 10 years ago. Can I consider this as a rheumatic heart disease? My doctor advised me to have inject every 21 days for 5 years to prevent for worst result in my heart. Please help me to understand my situation. thank you.

Mitral valve prolapse can be due to various conditions .
1.Rheumatic fever in childhood with recurrent sore throat .
2.myxometous degeneration of valve.
3.As part of some congenital lesions of heart.
4.Mild non specific echocardiographic finding.
In your case it may be Rheumatic in origin ,hence better to take injectable penicillin prophylaxis to prevent further damage to your valve.
