What Are The Long-term Side Effects Of Taking Prilosec?

I ve been taking Prilosec OTC for about ten years. I ve read that it can cause problems later on. As long as I take my one pill each morning, I have no problems. Two years ago, I tried to get off it, but I really suffered. So, I m still on it. But I wonder, what problems do I face later on? Nolan E. Warner YYYY@YYYY

Nephrologist 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query.
If you have required omeprazole (Prilosec) for 10 years then I suggest that you see a gastroenterologist. We need to consider an upper GI endoscopy to see why you have required the pill for so long and whether we can try some definitive treatment.
Hope this helps
Good luck
