Clonidine is an
antihypertensive medication and its primary role is to control
high blood pressure but Clonidine also works very well in reducing the Opiate (
Oxycodone)
withdrawal symptoms.
Clonidine, reduces anxiety, agitation, body aches, sweating, runny nose, and cramping which can result when you are weaning off from oxycodone.
I would suggest you to trust you physician and go ahead with the treatment.
But I would like to instruct you that you should not discontinue therapy without consulting your physician. Sudden cessation of clonidine treatment can, in some cases, result in symptoms such as
nervousness, agitation, headache, tremor, and confusion accompanied or followed by a rapid rise in blood pressure but if your MD gradually lowers clonidine before stopping it completely then you should be fine.
Thanks & I hope this helps,
Dr Sahsi.
