What Are The Possible Treatments For Chondomalcia Patella ?
I have chondomalacia patella and once a year, my knee will swell to the size of a cantaloupe above my knee cap. At this point, it takes me about a month for swelling to go down before I can resume my normal activity once again. I have done as much as I can in terms of trying to strengthen, gain more flexibility at physiotherapy, ice, etc, but it always hits. I know when the swelling will happen to as it does swell right away, but takes about a week from the onset. Is there anything I can try to do to improve this problem?
This is a very common problem these days specially amongst young males.
In your case since it is recurring and the size of swelling which you have mentioned. ... I think there are more than one factors involved. These could be Synovitis and effusion of knee.
Firstly get an MRI done to assess the extent of damage. Continue with the exercises. Get a complete arthritis panel blood test done .
Next time such an episode occurs you might want to go for an arthroscopic surgery of the knee in the form of debridement, maltracking correction and microfractures to regenerate the lost cartilage. Also send some joint tissue for biopsy at the time of surgery.
I hope my advice has helped. Good luck
