What Are The Possible Treatments For Dengue?

hello, I am currently in Vietnam and I have been told by a doctor that I may have dengue fever. I am going back in soon to talk to the Dr. again. I had a very high fever for four nights in a row that sometimes starts to creep back, but I have medicine for the fever now. I have loose stools, but I am also taking anti-biotics so I can't tell if that's causing the loose stools or if it's a symptom of dengue. I didn't have a rash, maybe a few spots, but that was all. I did have severe joint aches, especially back aches and I am now recovering from a pneumonia-like cough with bright yellow mucus. I also had pain behind my eyes during the fever. This has all been during the past five days. My questions are: does this sound like dengue to you? do you think the anti-biotics are causing the loose stools? And lastly, I am an English teacher and I am concerned about when and if to go back to work. Would love to hear any thoughts.

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

First, have you been tested for Dengue. Your symptoms could be as common in malaria and typhoid. So you need to make sure that the infection is that particular infection before commiting to a treatment.

As for dengue, there is no specific antibiotic or antiviral treatment.
The treatment is largely supportive.
Antipyretcis for fever
Anti diarrheals for diarrhoea
So on and so forth

Make sure you have plenty of fluids. Hydration is critical. Monitor your platelet counts and PCV. If the former gets too low, or you bleed, or if the latter goes too high, you may need admission.

Dengue usually takes 10 days.
Make sure to get the tests.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Please feel free to ask another query. I would be glad to help you. Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
