What Are The Precautions To Be Taken After A Head Surgery?

Good evening,
I was involved in a car accident shortly after setting out, walking a friend home on the right hand side of the road. A car, that was driving on the wrong side, travelling on the wrong side at 50mph (so i'm told) hit me from behind. I fractured my skull in multiple places and developed a blood clot. I was taken to hospital for two weeks, had an operation to remove the blood clot and now i'm finally home. my question is are there any dos or don't regarding my everyday life?

Hi there and Welcome,

Well congratulation that you're fine and got discharged from the hospital. Well fracture skull as well as blood clot generally takes about a month or two to resolve (after surgery) depending on the size of clot, area of involvement as well as time duration from the injury till intervention.

At home generally a person is advised bed-rest for a certain period of time until further follow-up to the hospital ascertain his/her well beings and ability to perform certain day to day work.

If you can let me know what kind of work you used to do prior to the accident ,would've clarified it.

Now I believe you've started taking your medications as per the discharge advice, don't stop any of them until advised otherwise. Also watch for any certain change in your physical ability compared to that prior to the accident.

Regarding everyday life , you can do your day to day activities if they are not involved with great deal of strength/stress. Driving vehicles as well as operating heavy machineries, gym etc. are strictly prohibited until fitness certificate is provided .

Also watch for any certain changes (i.e. sudden onset drowsiness, slurring of speech, abnormal body movements, fits, nausea, vomiting) if at all happens then contact your nearest ER at the earliest , perhaps get a repeat CT scan Head done also.

Hope these'll clear your doubts and looking forward to see you again
