Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Repercussions Of Taking Extra Dosage Of Losartan?
I take 100 mg of Losartan for high blood sugar. My doctor just added a diuretic and said start taking them in the morning. I was used to taking them at night. This morning I took both pills. Tonight I meant to take my Atorvastatin but took the Losartan by accident. Do I need to be concerned about the extra dose?
I do not think that Losartan has any noticeable effect on blood sugar, rather it is an anti-hypertensive drug. Accidental extra dose of Losartan should not result in somewhat serious complication, but as it causes your blood pressure to go down, the next few doses of Losartan and diuretics are to be titrated according to the readings of your BP. Also, normally the diuretics are to be taken in the morning as advised by your doctor. A night dose of diuretic may cause disturbance in your sleep due to increased frequency of urine as a result of diuretics.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
