What Are The Risk In Continuing Pregnancy With Barretts Disease?

I am 18 weeks pregnant and I have Barretts disease. They told me I have cancer cells and they put me on medication. They wanted me to get another scope done and told me that there is a window of opportunity to have it done at 6 months. I am afraid to be put to sleep while being pregnant and I m having trouble finding out any information about this subject...can you help?

Hello, and I hope I can answer your question.

Anesthesia can be safely tolerated by unborn babies of necessary. However the mother has a greater risk of complications, specifically aspiration, especially in someone with reflux (which causes Barrett's disease). However if your GI doctors are concerned about cancer, delaying treatment until after the baby is born could put your reversal health at risk. I suggest your GI doctor, your OB and an anesthesiologist collaborate to make the safest recommendation for your case.
