Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Side Effects If Taking Methylphenidate Pills?
I took 2 methylphenidate pills that i got from my friend. I do not have a prescription for this drug. I am 14, weigh ~130 pounds, and am around 5 2 feet tall. My heartbeat is in between 110-120 right now and I can feel my heart beating through my chest. Im trying not to panic. Am I overdosing? What are some of the effects of a methylphenidate overdose?
The normal heart rate is 60-100 bpm. However when you exercise, or are stressed, your heart normally beats fast. Your maximum heart rate is said to be 220 minus your age (so your your case 220 - 14 = 206 bpm). As you can see, unless you have severe heart problems, your heart can tolerate beating at a much faster rate than 110-120.
So in response to your question, don't panic. But also don't take medication that is not prescribed to you. It is not safe. If you develop dizziness/lightheadedness, chest pain, or trouble breathing, I suggest that you get checked out by a doctor.
