What Are The Side Effects Of Lansoprazole?

Hi, My husband takes Lansoprazole for acid refux, he gets brown bile which comes up into his throat at night; he inhaled it into his lungs which gave him a chest infection. The doctor has also prescribed him with inhalers for Asthma. This week he has got a terrible rash on his arms, legs, chest, back & neck, it burns & itches all the time which is driving him mad. The doctor has given him creams for Eczema which cleared the rash whilst using the cream, however as soon as he stops using it the symptoms all come back. Could this be anything to do with the Acid Reflux? His father has Barrets Oesophagitis

Hello
Acid reflux is the main cause of hyper acidity ( genetically, as your husband's father was having BArret's DISEASE) this produces brown acid type secretions from mouth during sleep.
As you mentioned that your husband is taking LANSOPRAZOLE for acid reflux.
The side effects of lnasaprazole are:
Diarrhea, abdominal pain , nausea, constipation , headache, dizziness, EOSINOPHILIA , myalgia , glossitis, stomatitis, RASH .
So rash and eosinophilia are most common side effects of lansaprazole so this may aggravate asthmatic symptoms of your husband.
When such patient visit my clinic I advise them to take "ROXATIDINE "150 mg twice in day for acid reflux .
Beside this also avoid fatty , spicy , greasy foods . Try to raise of your husband bed about 4 inches with blocks. To control stomach acid one should not eat or drinks for 2-3 hours before lie down. To control stomach acid one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them.
These measures also help in acid reflux.
Hope this will help you.
Good luck.
