Noted the history about a 31 years old female taking Mucinex and something like a long snake skin or intestinal shedding in stool with lots of mucus in stool. has a problem with constipation and anal fissures, hemorrhoids and mucus in stool. Wants to know whether Mucinex caused the stool problem. Mucinex consists of a combination of guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine and are not known to cause the skin like shedding of intestinal mucosa. The reason is obvious in your case as per the history of constipation causing and fissure and Hemorrhoid. Take proper laxatives, once the bowel are cleared you should consult a Gastroenterologist and have CT scan of the abdomen and colonoscopy with biopsy. Take multivitamins and therapeutic dosages of Vitamin A and D.
