What Are The Surgery Options For A Prolapsed Uterus?

I had a double mastectomy in 2009 and am taking Anastrozole 1 mg. daily. I was reading the comments for the Estring and wasn't happy with them . I have a prolapsed uterus and have tried 2 pessaries and don't like them. I am concerned obviously with the estrogen in the E string. What are the surgery options?

Hi and welcome,

The different options depend upon the desire to keep the uterus and also future childbearing.

The best is a vaginal hysterectomy if the uterus is not required. It helps in correcting the prolapse as well as correcting all the associated defects like prolapse of bladder [ cystocele] and rectum [ rectocele] along with the uterus.

So if there are any urinary and bowel complaints, they will also go away with the surgery.
Fixation procedures like sacrospinous fixation and vault suspension are modifications used at the time of surgery to prevent recurrence.

If the uterus must be kept, then sling surgeries are there that help pull the uterus up. They are of different types depending upon cases to case.

Other surgery is a Fothergills procedure for women that have an elongated cervix and want to keep the uterus.

Various modifications of almost all surgeries are there and it needs to be tailored to a particular patients needs and defects. So kindly discuss all these with your doctor and then decide about the best option.

Hope this satisfies your query.
