Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Sleep apnea occurs when a person stops breathing while sleeping. The person can present with loud snoring,
daytime sleepiness, fatigue, difficult awakening, and headache. Children also can have nightmares or bedwetting.
If your child is having breath pauses, it may be due to
airway obstruction. I suggest to take him to the
pediatrician or an ENT doctor to look for large tonsils, nasal turbinate hypertrophy, or any other airway obstruction. If everything is fine, then maybe he will need a
polysomnography to determine the cause of the pauses.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Arturo Benítez-Serrato
