Hi How do you know you have RSV My 78 year old father was admitted to the hospital today with flu like symptoms and fever and we were told after several test that he has RSV we have all been around him due to he has denentia especially our 9 year old granddaughter she is always around him hugging and kissing him When should we all seek medical evaluation and should we be concerned especially for our grand daughter Thank you for your help

The viral influenza diagnosis is usually through clinical history taking. For flu, confirmation swab can be taken and PCR testing is needed.
If your granddaughter has respiratory symptoms than flu should be ruled out. Symptomatic management is done for that.
If flu severe than only antiviral medication needed.
