Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Are The Symptoms Of Congestive Heart Failure?
My 88 year old mother is having problems with o2. She desalts very quickly with minimal movement. She is spending more time in bed. How do I know when it is time to call in hospice? She has 3 blocked arteries in her heart. How do I know if she has congestive heart failure as opposed to pneumonia?
If she is having a fever, there are associated coryzal symptoms, she is immunocompromised, has diabetes, takes out mucoid dirty, greenish yellow sputum, this is pneumonia.
If she has a past history of cardiac disease (had 3 blocked arteries), there is associated swelling in legs, she takes out pink frothy sputum, it is cardiac failure.
Kindly take her to ER and procure ECG, ECHO, Chest x-ray and ABG. She might be sleepy due to disturbed electrolytes (reduced sodium) if she is on diuretic therapy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
