Hi Dr Rynne I have a 22 year old friend and his dad is schizophrenic - i have noticed recently that my friend looks different at times. he does things and deny s that he did it. When under stress, he pulls out the hairs on his hands or chest or paces up and down. he seems to have lost interest at work and in everything, and gets very angry. i am very worried. Is it possible that he is also schizophrenic. please help. Veena
Schizophrenia can be hereditary. There are chances of developing schizophrenia in siblings there is a family history of schizophrenia. Symptoms are mostly psychotic in nature such a hallucination, delusion, social withdrawal and abnormal behavior. Schizophrenia is a very complex disorder and need to be diagnosed by trained doctor. You need to consult a psychiatrist who is especially trained in dealing such cases. Psychiatrist will take proper care after diagnosis and will initiate treatment as needed. I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question Thank
