What Are The Uses And Side Effects Of Acetaminophen Tablets?
I'm worried about how much acetaminophen I've been taking in Vicodin. I've developed a ridiculous tolerance to it for back pain, and I just read some information that's scaring the crap out of me. I've probably taken in the neighborhood of 5000-7000 mg acetaminophen per day for the last 9 days.... Am I OK?
Hello This is too high dose of acetaaminophen ( call as paracetamol ) . If a large dose (>150 mg / kg or 10 gm in an adult )is taken a serious toxicity can occur. Fatality is common with >250 mg /kg. Above mentioned dosage are for acute toxicity . Now as you mentioned that you are taking 5000-7000 mg ( 5-7 gm) / day . Early manifestation are just nausea, vomiting , abdominal pain and liver tenderness with no impairment of consciousness . Side effects are : Hepatic necrosis renal tubular necrosis hypoglycemia . So these are most probable side effects of aceta aminophen. In my opinion at once stop the drug and get in an ultrasound of liver , kidney for assessment for any damage to these vital organs . For back pain consult one orthopedician get his opinion . Good luck.
