What Are Vomiting, Diarrhea And Extreme Fatigue Indicative Of?

I think I have food poisoning. I have experienced intense vomiting and diarrhea since about 2 AM this morning to just a few hours ago. I feel better but have very, very little energy; I can t stand up for more than a few seconds at a time and I have been sleeping all day. I m still so tired and disoriented I worry I ll miss another day of work. What can I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern and the situation.
You seem to have features suggestive of dehydration due excessive loss of fluids and electrolytes in the vomitus and the loose stools. Had I been your treating physician I would have advised you to consult doctors in ER since this appears to be due to food poisoning so, it has to be treated in the hospital.
You may need to undergo certain lab tests such as serum electrolytes, kidney function tests, blood culture, and stool analysis. You also require parenteral antibiotics along with intravenous fluids to correct the dehydration. Hope the suggestions given above would be useful.
