What Can Be The Dark Circle Above The Teeth?

My teeth has been slightly achy so I had an x-ray taken of my upper left molars today. There was a dark black circle right above my teeth in the gums area on the x-ray. The dentist said it may be a sinus infection or something worst, but he asked me to go see an Endodontist. What could the black circle on the x-ray be?? Please help!

Hi
With you query, I think it might be a maxillary sinus or periapical infection but to confirm it as periapical infection that particular tooth should have decay to cause this. Any ways visit your endodontist as mentioned by your doctor. Hope thus helps you.
