What Can Be The Effects Of Marijuana On Fetus?

Please do not pass judgement i simply want an answer. Iwill be 32 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I was a pot smoker i slowed down once i was pregnant and stopped two weeks ago. I smoked because i couldn t eat i still have trouble eating i get terrible heartburn and sick. Will dfs take my baby from me if thc is in.her system? I live in missouri. I have not drank or smoked cigerettes nor do i or have i taken any other drugs ever. I was told that dfs will show up at your house weekly and take your baby if she is tested positive but a friend of mine had a baby a year ago and smoked her whole pregnancy and dfs wasn t contacted she still has her baby and the nurse told her they don t care so much or make reports over marijuana they are more concerned with narcotics and pain pills.

Hi,

Marijuana use during pregnancy can have negative effects on fetal development and health. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound in marijuana, can cross the placenta and affect the developing fetus. Research suggests that marijuana use during pregnancy may increase the risk of low birth weight, premature birth, and developmental problems in children, including cognitive and behavioral issues.

In addition, THC can accumulate in the fetal brain, potentially leading to long-term changes in brain function and behavior.

Regarding your question about whether DFS will take your baby from you if THC is found in her system, it is possible, but it depends on several factors, including the laws in your state, the policies of your healthcare providers, and the specific circumstances of your case. In some states, a positive drug test for marijuana can lead to a report to child protective services, which may investigate and take action to protect the child if necessary.

However, policies and practices can vary between states, and even between healthcare providers within the same state. It's important to talk to your healthcare provider about your concerns and seek advice on how to address any issues related to marijuana use during pregnancy. Your healthcare provider can provide information about resources and support available to help you quit if needed.

Finally, it's important to note that seeking help for substance use during pregnancy is not a sign of weakness or a lack of love for your child. It takes courage to seek help and make changes, and there are resources available to support you in this process.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
